  • US$12-28tn could be added to global GDP by 2025 by advancing women's equality (source: McKinsey). This is a c.13-31% GDP boost….
  •  at the high end of assessments, this impact is roughly equivalent to the combined size of the China + US GDP today. At the low end = Germany+ UK+ Japan's.
  • The US economy could be US$1.6tn larger (8% of GDP) if women's labour force participation was on par with Norway's. Having women enter and stay in the US workforce could add some US$5.8tn to the total global market cap (S&P).
  • At the current rate, it will take 202 years to close the economic global gender gap (source: WEF), which is still better than the 2017 projection of 217 years.
  • By 2020 women are expected to hold c. US$72tn of private wealth, > 2x 2010 levels. Women now account for 32% of global financial assets (BCG).
  • And the growth rate of private wealth held by women was 1.5x of men's (9% CAGR vs. 6%) (source: BCG)
  • Women outlive men by an average of 4.5Y (UN). This has a big influence on the global wealth management industry as US$22tn in assets will be transferred to them by 2020E in the US (source: Women of Wealth, BMO).
  • Women place greater importance on ESG factors than men when making investment decisions (64% vs. 46%) (source: BofA US Trust Survey).
  • Working women in the US are paid, on average, over US$11,000 less per year than men. That is the equivalent of 89 weeks of food expenses or more than one year of rent (source: National Partnership for Women & Families 2018).
  • Investing in programmes to improve income-generating activities for women can return US$7 for every dollar spent (source: UN).
  • Only six countries have laws that give women equal economic opportunity to men: Belgium, Denmark, France, Latvia, Luxembourg and Sweden (source: World Bank).
  • S&P 500 boards have been improving over the last decade; with the average board currently 23% women, up from 14% in 2008. In Europe the % of women in corporate boards hassurged 3x over the past 15 years. (source: BofA Merrill Lynch Global Research)
  • Our work shows gender diversity on board and C level = higher ROE. In APAC, companies with two or more females on the board tend to be valued by the market at a premium with 2.0x higher forward P/E, and higher net profit margins (+3), and dividend yield and payout ratios (1.5x) (source: BofA Merrill Lynch Global Research).
  • Wall Street gets that? The AUM of mutual funds and ETFs focused on gender diversity has grown at a 59% CAGR since 2014 in the US. (source: BofA Merrill Lynch Global
